FORM CONTROL: A Research Into Form Animation Through Urban Forces

This project enquires a process in which architecture can be formulated through data sets obtained from a site. In this case, urban forces such as connectivity and density are two parameters chosen as an architectural model for overpopulation.

The departure of this project takes the form of a minimal surace typology, the Gyroid, and the entire process is governed by 2 theoretical framework, namely, space syntax and form animation, each from Bill Hillier and Greg Lynn respectively. One to push form, while the other to deform.



The continuity of the Yarra river has been disturbed by the dead space caused by Crown Plaza. The urban intervention here is to address this disconnection by propose a new connective tissue activated with public green space which also serve as a fashion school.


The idea is engage the form on the site base on density and 'level of interation' (space syntax) so the form + space can be articulated to perform parametrically with the site forces. The distributed network of the internal programmatic configuration is compromised and rationalised base on the number of connection each program requires.

MArch 2nd Year - Parametric Urbanism + System Theory

This project ask for a way of increasing population within Melbourne CBD area.



The exploration of this particular studio is on systems philosophy;

• subsystem interaction and systematic behaviour

MArch 1st year - Fabrication + Mass Customization Studio

ABstraction FABrication
This studio aims to investigate the influence of new technologies on design processes,

Opimizing panel layout strategies to minimize wastage. Unfortunately, I can't afford CATIA which has a wonderful feature which allows you too automatically optmizes the layout with just a few clicks. For this project, panels are unfolded with Pepakura (an origami program) and autoCAD is use to mamnually place and align the panels, inc. the numbering.

Interim Review-

Intention: To explore the notion of surface in architecture. Methodology: Divide + Conquer~!


Digital JIG modeling with Generative Components

Assembly of the structural members that are unfolded manualy with autoCAD

Discovery of non planar surfaces that are almost impossible to design it with tolerence because of the surface curvature.

material + form hyphothesis:

1 For quads to 'behave' properly (structurally sound + ease of assembly), increment of the offset splines must be of the exact same amount. Can be explained by Foster's building whenever he uses quads, his form is symmetrical.

3rd year

The brief ask for a prototype housing concept that suggest a new mass housing lifetyle in response to the growing population and the need for accomodation.

The site is located at one of the busiest districts in Kuala Lumpur city; Front with busy vehicular traffic particularly after and before office and school hours.

The exploration started of by the redefinition of an 'urban village' and 'street living'. The design enquires the importance of public communal space as the main driver to determine the rest of the spatial configuration.

2nd Year - Sustainabe Sports Center

Project Brief:
The brief of this project is simple and direct. It calls for a sustainable sports center located right at the border of a slump and of the highend office area.
The departure point of this design is base on the exploration on the creation of open space where it's visible to the whole perimeter; and also, what are the elements that will heighten the spatial quality fo the space in the centre.

In this project, social spaces are clustered around the perimeter to form a centric space at the centre at the same time acting as the transient space where both the internal and external spatial function can have a point of intesection.

With this layering method, an unexpected couryard (i think it's more like cloister) effect has been generated - which is good 'cause the couryard and the space around it assist each other whenever one is activated.

1st Year - Gallery for Raja Shahriman

Project Brief:
Client Raja Shahriman is looking for a gallery to showcase his metal sculpture artworks, which also includes an area for his private studio for the making of his designs.

Raja Shahriman carries a very different faith as a Muslim. As stonge as he is, he has never given up his dream to sculp huma figure, which the Muslim faith rejects. He justifies his artwork as having the presence of movements inspired by the Malaysian martial arts, 'Silat', rather than the figure itself.

What makes a 'still' movement, a 'slow', and what's makes it 'fast'? What can be the best material to assist in its expression? Within the time frame the metal mealts for the sculpture to be crafted, what can be done?

This project takes on Raja Shahrima's integrity in his design to suggest and to express movements in 'still form'. It explores geometry of primitive forms known to be 'static', exploded and reassembled to indicate a sense of dynamism in the geometry.

Circulation is base on a continuous centric space; where the linearity of the spatial flow is totally dependent on the atmosphere of the artium that provides all the mixed sounds, lighting, and ventilation. Very similar to the gallery Wright did for Guggenheim.
